[Closed] ACGAL Translation Grants Announcement for 2025 (Revised and Extended)

PART 1

30th June, 2025

From now until 15th September, 2025,
Antonym Council of Global Arts and Literature invites you to apply for the following Translation grant:

Ranu Chakraborty Memorial Translation Grant – $1000
Translation of a feminist non-fiction from any Indian language into English

Eligibility Criteria

1. The original book must have been published in India within the last 20 years,

2. The text must be at least 20,000 words long.

3. The selection committee will consider the following factors when evaluating works:

  • Quality of the original book and its importance in the contemporary literary scene
  • Innovative content and literary form
  • Quality of the translation

Application Process:


1.  Duly filled up Application Form available on the website

2. One physical copy of the book in its original, to be mailed to the Grants Department

3. One digital version of the original text (PDF)

4. Excerpt in English: A 10–12-page, double-spaced sample of the English translation

5. Excerpt in Original Text: Scanned version of the corresponding sample in Original Text

6. Author’s biography/bibliography

7.  Translator’s biography: A few redacted lines, not a CV (400 characters max)

8.  Acquisition of rights permission: A signed copy of the permission provided by the author or the rights holder

Timeline

Application Deadline: 15th September, 2025

Recipients will be announced in October 2025

Grant Disbursement Policy

50% – Translator

25% – Editorial support

25% – Publishing.

Please note:

  • Only complete applications with a physical copy and a digital version will be considered.
  • The grantee has to meet the commitments on the timeline agreed upon in the contract.
  • Unless the dates are mutually renegotiated in advance, the translator will have to submit the final draft within a date specified in the contract, failing which they shall not be eligible to receive the final instalment of the grant. In addition, they will have to return the grant amount already disbursed.

Antonym Council of Global Arts and Literature invites you to apply for the following Translation grant: 

Param Bandyopadhyay Memorial Translation Grant – $1000​Translation of Bengali poetry (Poet: Sankha Ghosh) into English 

The translator shall translate 60 poems of their choice from a selection of 150 Poems by the ACGAL Translation Grant Committee.​

Application Process:  

1.  Duly filled up Application Form available on the website 

2. Excerpt in English: A double-spaced English translation of the following poems by Sankha Ghosh. 

i)  Brishti 

ii)  Radhachura 

iii) Ultorath 

iv) Gandharva Kabitaguchchha: 18 

v) Ei Barita
