Privacy Policy
Last updated: 14 August 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how ACGAL (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses, and shares information when you visit acgal.in (the “Site”), or apply to, register for, or participate in any of our residencies, workshops, events, or programmes (“Programmes”).
ACGAL is the non-profit arm of The Antonym Collections, running residencies, workshops, and cultural programming at Arts Acre, New Town, Kolkata, and elsewhere. This policy governs acgal.in specifically. If you also interact with antonymcollection.com (our publishing and bookstore site), that visit is governed by that site's own privacy policy.
Information We Collect
Device Information. When you visit the Site, we automatically collect information about your browser, IP address, time zone, and the pages you view, using cookies, log files, and similar technologies. We use this to keep the Site running properly and to understand how it's used.
Application & Registration Information. When you apply to a residency, register for a workshop, or sign up for an event, we collect what the application or registration form asks for. This typically includes your name, email address, phone number, city/address, portfolio or work samples, a short bio, and — where a programme fee applies — payment details (processed by our payment partner; we do not store full card numbers).
Identity Verification. Where a programme requires it (for example, to confirm a selected participant's identity before travel and stay arrangements at Arts Acre), we may ask for a government-issued ID. This is collected only from confirmed/selected participants, used solely for that verification, and is not required from applicants at the time of submitting an application.
Communications. If you email us, message us, or contact us through the Site, we keep a record of that correspondence so we can respond and keep track of ongoing conversations.
How We Use Your Information
We use Application & Registration Information to:
- Review and process applications, and administer selection for residencies, workshops, and events;
- Communicate with you about your application, selection status, and programme logistics;
- Process programme fees, where applicable, and issue confirmations or receipts;
- Coordinate travel, accommodation, and meals for residency participants, where those are part of the programme;
- Screen for fraud or misuse of the application process.
We use Device Information to keep the Site secure, to fix problems, and to understand which pages and programmes visitors are most interested in.
Photography, Recording & Promotional Use
Residencies, workshops, and events run by ACGAL are often photographed or filmed for documentation and promotion. By participating in a Programme, you agree that ACGAL may photograph or record sessions and use resulting images, video, and audio — which may include you — on acgal.in, on Antonym's social media accounts, and in other promotional or archival material, with credit given where appropriate. If you'd prefer not to be featured, let us know in writing before the Programme begins and we'll make reasonable efforts to accommodate that.
Sharing Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with:
- Mentors, jurors, or facilitators directly involved in reviewing applications or running a Programme, to the extent needed for that Programme;
- Payment processors, to handle programme fee transactions;
- Service providers who host the Site, send emails on our behalf, or otherwise support our operations, bound to keep your information confidential;
- Authorities, where required by law.
Cookies & Do Not Track
The Site uses cookies to remember basic preferences and to understand traffic patterns. You can disable cookies through your browser settings; some parts of the Site may not work as intended if you do. We do not currently alter our data practices in response to browser “Do Not Track” signals.
Data Retention
We keep application and registration information for as long as needed to administer the relevant Programme, maintain our records, and comply with legal or accounting requirements, after which we delete or anonymise it. Unsuccessful applicants' information is retained for a reasonable period in case of future programme cycles, unless you ask us to delete it sooner.
Your Rights
You can ask us to access, correct, update, or delete the personal information we hold about you. To do this, write to us at rohini@antonymcollection.com. We will respond within a reasonable time.
Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect the information you share with us. No online system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security of information transmitted to the Site.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal or operational reasons. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent revision.
